FOIP Legislation

Alberta's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act aims to strike a balance between the public's right to know and the individual's right to privacy, as those rights relate to information held by public bodies.

This law, which was proclaimed October 1, 1995, affects all provincial government departments, agencies, boards and commissions, school boards, health care bodies, post-secondary educational institutions, and local government. The Town of Innisfail adopted its FOIP legislation on October 12, 1999.

Additional information on FOIPP is available at: www.foip.alberta.ca.
